What they actually want (must-haves)
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline; equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • 10+ years of experience developing physical products, including meaningful ownership of hardware that reached production or customer deployment
  • 5+ years of experience leading mechanical engineering, product design, hardware engineering, or closely related technical teams
  • Demonstrated experience taking multiple products or complex subsystems from concept through production
  • Broad mechanical engineering fundamentals across structures, mechanisms, electromechanical systems, thermal systems, packaging, materials, and manufacturing
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design, CAD, GD&T, tolerance analysis, engineering drawings, prototyping, mechanical analysis, and design validation
Nice to have
  • Experience developing products in more than one hardware industry or product category
  • Experience in high-performance hardware environments such as consumer electronics, medical devices, robotics, automotive, industrial systems, advanced mobility, or aerospace
  • Experience scaling engineering teams or establishing mechanical engineering capability within a growing organization
  • Experience developing high-volume or cost-sensitive products in addition to low-volume, high-performance hardware
  • Experience with complex electromechanical systems involving motors, actuators, sensors, power electronics, thermal systems, precision mechanisms, or similar technologies
What the job really is

As the Director of Mechanical Engineering at Neon Aero, you will lead the mechanical engineering organization, overseeing the development and execution of complex hardware products from concept to production. Your role involves setting technical standards, managing design processes, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure manufacturability and reliability. You will also be directly involved in critical design decisions and prototype builds, driving innovation in aerospace technology.
