What they actually want (must-haves)
  • A bachelor's degree in human services, business, education, or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university (one year of qualifying experience may be substituted for each year, or 30 semester hours, of college, up to a maximum of two years)
  • At least two years of experience in education, youth training, or workforce development programs
  • Knowledge of classroom management strategies and demonstrated ability to develop interactive classroom presentations
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with secondary and postsecondary education and training providers, local employers, and youth
  • Skilled and effective oral and written communication, with demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations, especially youth
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively
Nice to have
  • Experience in workforce development or Career and Technical Education (CTE), preferably in gathering and reporting outcomes
  • ISD experience as a teacher or counselor working with at-risk middle or high school populations
  • Knowledge of the Deep East Texas region and its employers, community organizations, and workforce partners
  • Bilingual or multilingual
  • Training in Trauma Informed Care, evidence-based practice, and/or empathy-driven service delivery
What the job really is

The Career Coach at Career Team will provide career guidance and preparation to students in grades 5-12, their parents, and school staff within the Deep East Texas Workforce Development Area. This role involves conducting orientations, organizing job exploration events, and collaborating with local school districts to connect students with career pathways and resources. The position requires independent decision-making and regular travel to various school locations.
