What they actually want (must-haves)
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3–5 years of experience in commissioning, construction, or maintenance of power generation or utility-scale electrical systems
  • Hands-on experience commissioning or testing natural gas or reciprocating engine generation, switchgear, transformers, or related power equipment
  • Experience with engine startup, fuel gas systems, load bank testing, or engine controls
  • Ability to read, interpret, and verify electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, P&IDs, control logic, and vendor technical documentation
  • Proficiency with commissioning and electrical test equipment, and the ability to interpret test results independently
Nice to have
  • Technical certificate or associate degree in electrical technology, power systems, instrumentation, or a related discipline
  • OSHA 10 or 30 and NFPA 70E electrical safety certification
  • NETA or NICET certification, or equivalent industry credential
  • Experience with protective relays and relay test sets from manufacturers such as SEL, GE, ABB, Siemens, or Basler
  • Experience with test equipment such as Megger, Doble, Vanguard, or Omicron
What the job really is

The Commissioning Technician II at Atlas Energy Solutions is responsible for executing commissioning activities on natural gas generation fleets, battery energy storage systems, and related equipment. This role involves leading engine startups, performing functional testing, and resolving commissioning issues while mentoring junior technicians. The technician will also maintain documentation and coordinate with site leadership and vendors to ensure successful project execution.
